Tutorial for Rhinoceros

Welcome to the tutorial for Rhinoceros 3D – How to import and set up 3D plants for V-Ray in Rhino.

Step 1: Download any free 3D plant model from our website. This model comes in .ZIP folder.

Step 2: Download Textures. Textures for all Ivy models are the same, so you don’t have to download them every time you download different types of Ivy.

Step 3: Don’t forget to share the model with your friends :) Sharing means helping ;)

Step 4: Extract downloaded files into destination folder.

Step 5: Open up Rhinoceros 3D

Step 6: Move the .OBJ file from folder to Rhinoceros window.

Step 7: Select Import option and press OK button.

Step 8: Rotate the Ivy model 90 degrees counter-clockwise in the Right viewport.

Step 9: Create the scene, or show the hidden geometry.

Step 10: Create V-Ray default material, set the name to something like Ivy – branch and set the material, like you can see in the image.

Step 11: Create V-Ray default material, set the name to something like Ivy – leaf 1 and set the material, like you can see in the image. For diffuse slot use color texture, for Transparency slot use BW image as an alpha map.

Step 12: Select the Ivy and type Ungroup command.

Step 13: Select Branch geometry.

Step 14: Apply Branch material.

Step 15: Apply Leaves material.

Step 16: Check the model in Rendered viewport.

That’s it :) Materials are set, scene is up to you. Here is the result of my render:
